My.EMCOM is operated by
EMCOM.
It was designed to be an interface point between the public and private sectors
in relation to emergency management and response. A place to learn what is
happening globally, but to act locally.
Natural disasters like the storms in the Southeast a few years ago, the
hurricanes along the Gulf states and many more examples show us that we have to
plan and depend upon local resources. We are the ones affected... we are the
ones to die.
Terrorism is a threat, but natural disasters occur more frequenly and claim more
lives... there is the threat of a pandemic... are we prepared? The last one
killed almost 10% of the population, and 80% of the population was ill. If that
happens,
is your community ready? With so many sick, including health care
workers, truck drivers, and everyone else, where will the gasoline supplies come
from... who will bring food to the stores... who will care for the ill? The CDC
has already said that there are not nearly enough (maybe only 25%) of the respirators
that will be needed; a tiny fraction of hospital beds. Are there
contingency plans in your community? Hopefully there are. By interfacing on
My.EMCOM with your local emergency personnel, you can find out; even possibly
help. That's why we are here; to help facilitate communication between the public
and private sectors... to learn about new ideas that might be applied in our own
communities.
Join us. Give us your real thoughts and concerns. If you have expertise, teach
it; if you want knowledge, seek it here. Don't just be a 'browser'; sign up for
your own My.EMCOM site (it's free) and get involved with your community's emergency
management and response efforts.
Thank You in advance for joining us in the My.EMCOM Community.
